1940s LARGE genuine alligator Argentinian art deco clutch
A lovely 1940s genuine alligator Argentinian clutch of a good size to carry all your necessities. It is a beautiful red-brown color, and the large scales play nicely across the curves of the art deco shape. No hardware, closes by way of the large tab coming up through the loop which itself comes through a window in the top flap. Opens to one main compartment. Has lovely soft brown suede covering it throughout and all the pockets are lined with alligator edging. The back wall has a zip pocket lined in muslin and a fold-out pocket, while the front wall has a slash pocket. It is inscribed in gold lettering, Made in Argentina, Genuine Alligator.
The skins are in great shape and have been newly cleaned and conditioned. In the late 40s, a major fascination with alligator and crocodile had began. World War II had stopped European imports, so the South American market was created. Many fine examples were created in this era. Thank goodness for us art deco shapes were popular for clutches and bags, and are coveted today.
